Chocolate donut cereal
It's about time that I share a crazy homemade "breakfast cereal", isn't it?
Here a bowl of chocolate donut cereal! 🍩🍩🍩
What do you guys think? It's a bowl of tiny chocolate donuts, soft and super delicious.
Of course they don't have a cereal texture but I totally enjoyed soaking them in milk.
I mean, if we can make waffle and pancake cereal, why couldn't we enjoy donut cereal?
If you want to give it a try you just need a mini donut mould and you can check out how I made them in the section below 💁♀️
60ml vegetable oil
100g granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
75g sour cream*
120g all-purpose flour
25g cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and prepare a mini donut silicone mould with 18 cavities (I used this one).
In a bowl mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt and leave it aside.
In a bigger bowl pour oil, sugar and milk and mix with either an electric mixer or an hand whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Add the egg, sour cream and vanilla extract and keep mixing until you get a creamy consistency.
Finally add the dry ingredients and mix with a rubber spatula until just combined.
Pour the batter into the mould using a teaspoon (the holes need to be no more than half-full) and bake for about 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out with a few crumbs (a bit fudgy but not too dry).
Let them cool in the pan for about 5 minutes then transfer to a cooling rack.
Place one portion of mini donut cereal in a bowl.
Add cold milk.
You can use greek yogurt instead of sour cream but the result will be slightly different since the sour cream is higher in fat.
With this batter you can make a lot of mini donuts (about 5-6 portions) so I suggest to use this recipe to make also other treats like muffins or a cake or whatever you want; in fact I used this batter to make Cereal swirl mini muffins and the Halloween mini naked cake!
If you make it let me know! :)
